The day after we wrote about “Alice”, the cartoonist at Gapingvoid, Hugh MacLeod sent out an email with a drawing of an “energy vampire” and the following text:

Energy Vampires

You know who they are. You know what they do.

You know what must be done.

Surround yourself with people who support you, challenge you, understand you and push you to grow. Beware, however, people who drain your energy without giving back. They may mean well and may not be intentionally draining your energy, but in the end their intentions are irrelevant. They may even be hurt and offended when you distance yourself. Just remember, this isn’t personal. Although we use the word, “vampire,” this really isn’t a judgement on the other person. It’s an assessment of a destructive relationship which must be ended.

If an energy vampire has chomped onto you, shake them off and replace them with an energy generator with whom you can truly co-create. It’s better for everybody in the end!
