Day 106(J): Leaders of Our Future

Life works in mysterious ways. The incident that S and J had at their school last week pushed me and Charles to look straight into an issue that had been lurking in the back of our minds for a few months since MyCrownShift, if not longer. It is a gift — a true blessing in disguise — which we didn’t appreciate at the outset of this incident. Both Charles and I are humbled and grateful to be reminded of the truth that Life doesn’t throw us challenges which we aren’t able to meet.

After having dealt with the aftermath of the incident for over a week now, Charles and I appreciate the clarity and insight we are gaining through fact-finding. It is important to us to gather as many facts and as much data as possible because we’d like to see the whole picture accurately and truthfully before we make a decision regarding our daughters’ educational paths. Concurrently I am also using my intuition and instinct to tune into the situation and school environment so that I can see and hear any signs that are not readily visible or audible, but critical nonetheless for deliberating our long-term decisions as well as the very next step that is in line with the values by which our family aspires to live.

All these endeavors are using up a significant amount of my energy. This evening I realized how exhausted I was mentally and emotionally. It felt very familiar and I realized how similar it was to the way I used to feel when I was working as a corporate employee. Just as I knew there had to be another way to make a living — in order to feed both my soul and my family — I know there has to be another way to educate today’s children who will grow up to be the leaders of our future.

I refuse to accept a “That’s just the way it is” approach to education. I envision a different future for our children and their generation — a world where co-creativity, collaboration, and cooperation are the norm, not exceptions. I see and feel the need to educate our children to lead a world in which every individual can succeed in being the best unique being each of them came to life to become.

If we educate our children not only to excel at subject matters they study, but also to strengthen and embody their creativity, authenticity, integrity and humanity, then they can change the future.

Charles and I are not completely out of the woods yet. When I regain the energy I need to unpack the depth and breadth of the issue that has been presented to Charles and me, I hope to share more in future posts. In the meantime, I know Charles and I will take one step at a time to move with the knowledge and faith that gave me the courage to fly off the cliff with my family on Day 1 of this Soul Play Family 365 Experiment.
