Day 99(J): One, Single Step at a Time
It’s been a hectic week, yet both Charles and I feel that we’ve been staying centered notwithstanding the demanding schedule. I’ll write about it when I regain the energy to unpack this week’s events. Right now I feel a strong need to stay close to my core and tend to my soul’s fire.
Charles and I have some big decisions to make in the coming week or two regarding our daughters’ educational paths. Our decisions require a leap of faith akin to the one I had to summon when I left Microsoft ninety-nine days ago: “Leap and the net will appear.”
One thing that became clear to Charles and me this week is this:
When we know what we are about in life through awakened consciousness, and take a firm stance to live in accordance with what matters most to us as we gain awareness of our true selves, then we have amazing clarity at our disposal even when it appears that we must choose between a rock and a hard place.
With this new-found clarity, what was perceived as an impossible path can magically turn into a viable path; and a default choice coming from a place of resignation that says, “I’ve got no other choice” will no longer appear acceptable or tolerable. In fact, this was the kind of clarity I had to reach in order to leave corporate employment without a “guaranteed” path in the form of a new job or venture ninety-nine days ago. Charles and I feel that this week’s events have led us to the clarity we need for decisions that will catapult us into our next phase of growth as a family.
At the same time, we are keenly aware of the need to stay in the moment. Every time either Charles or I leap ahead in speculation of some potential this-or-that, we remind each other to focus on one step at a time. We don’t need to figure out where we’ll be after we’ve gone ten miles when we don’t even know where we’ll be after one. We need to unlock the first door before getting to the next one, so we might as well focus our energy and attention on the combination to unlock that first door rather than wondering about how difficult it will be to unlock the second or third or fourth. That wondering becomes a purely intellectual exercise which gives us no real return on the investment of our time or energy.
One step at a time. That’s all we need to walk, isn’t it? One, single step at a time, with the faith that each next step will be shown to us every time we take a step in the right direction. How do we know which direction is right for us? We invariably choose the right direction when we know what we are about in life through awakened consciousness, and take a firm stance to live in accordance with what matters most to us as we gain awareness of our true selves.
